Traditionally associated with smithy and weaponry, Svartalfheim is also the richest realm in minerals and natural resources, making it the financial heart of the Norse realms.Įven though the Dwarves are rather unwelcoming and discreet people, unwilling to share the secrets of their homeworld or mix themselves with the other races, they inevitably caught the attention of the Aesir, who needed high quality weapons and Svartalfheim's mineral resources to ensure their conquest of the Nine Realms. Displaying an unparalleled talent in architecture, they built exquisite houses that gradually gave birth to small and reclusive communities. The warm and wet environement of Svartalfheim as well as its particular geology greatly favored the development of Dwarven infrastructures all around the realm, which in turn facilitated the establishement of numerous workshops and pitmines, from where the Dwarves extracted their high quality ore. Thanks to their wise management, it is safe to assume that Svartalfheim thrives much better than any other realm. The great wolf Fenrir has been revealed to be in the game (as seen at the top of this article), so we also expect him to tag along for the journey. Ragnarok is the destruction of all realms, even this mighty one, so we expect it to be the climactic setting of the game. ![]() The great city is home to Odin, Thor, and the rest of the ruling Aesir gods. Looking through the window, we can see a forest with all sorts of colors, quite different from the wilds of Midgard. ![]() It’s mostly left in ruins after the Vanir-Aesir War, and even in proper Norse mythology, little is known about it. It only makes sense that we’ll actually explore her homeland in the sequel. We actually got a glimpse of the realm outside the window of her hut in that game. Vanir gods include the aforementioned Freya, who played a significant role in God of War. Aesir reside in Asgard and are more well known, but we’ll get to them in a moment. There are two main families of gods in Norse mythology: Vanir and Aesir.
